mount Bromo nice scenery, specially when the fog fills the outer crater; we highly recommend the walk over the sand sea and the climb up to the volcano Bromo to look into the smoking crater
Borobudur one of the largest buddhist temples in the world; it dates from the eigth century and is located close to Yogyakarta
Prambanan

a highlight of Javanese hindu architecture, located 16km north-east of Yogyakarta

Imogiri

if you have enough time in Yogyakarta, Imogiri (15km south) is a nice day trip; it houses tombs of Javanese rulers; you have to wear traditional palast clothes which are available at the entrance

Melia Purosani, Yogyakarta a nice five star hotel, that is very centrally located

culture

-Wayang Kulit is a shadow play, althought you will not be able to understand anything, it is a mistic experience
- the dances are foreign and colourful
- try to hear some original Java gamelan music, you will not (be able to) forget it

public transportation buses are convenient to get around, people are generally very helpful to get you into the right bus;
a voyage in a train (second class) is very entertaining, a good segment is from Yoyakarta to Banjar, where the train is overcrowded, people sell food, key fobs and other strange stuff and queens sing songs for money
Jakarta not really necessary to visit, taxi prices quadrouple after dark
