| Highlights | |
| mount Bromo | nice scenery, specially when the fog fills the outer crater; we highly recommend the walk over the sand sea and the climb up to the volcano Bromo to look into the smoking crater |
| Borobudur | one of the largest buddhist temples in the world; it dates from the eigth century and is located close to Yogyakarta |
| Prambanan |
a highlight of Javanese hindu architecture, located 16km north-east of Yogyakarta |
| Imogiri |
if you have enough time in Yogyakarta, Imogiri (15km south) is a nice day trip; it houses tombs of Javanese rulers; you have to wear traditional palast clothes which are available at the entrance |
| Restaurants / Hotels | |
| Melia Purosani, Yogyakarta | a nice five star hotel, that is very centrally located |
| Tips | |
| culture |
-Wayang Kulit is a shadow play, althought you will not be able to understand
anything, it is a mistic experience |
| public transportation | buses are convenient to get around,
people are generally very helpful to get you into the right bus; a voyage in a train (second class) is very entertaining, a good segment is from Yoyakarta to Banjar, where the train is overcrowded, people sell food, key fobs and other strange stuff and queens sing songs for money |
| Jakarta | not really necessary to visit, taxi prices quadrouple after dark |
